Chess and history — wherever you are.
I'm a professional chess player. During my five years in Bali, I taught history and chess, founded a chess academy and a private primary school, organised tournaments and camps, and gave hundreds of live presentations on the island's history for adult audiences. I enjoy bringing subjects to life through stories, questions and practical experience.
Today, I live in Peru and bring that experience to my online work. Here's how you can learn with me.
Worldschooling families are always on the move. Children meet, become friends, and then one family moves on. I wanted to create a way for them to stay connected — a place where children and parents from different countries can keep in touch and children can keep playing chess together.
I organise a free chess tournament every week on CoachMate, a platform I created myself. There's no fee to join, ever. Tournament times vary between Fridays and weekends so that children in different time zones can take part at a reasonable hour.
All ages and skill levels are welcome. The tournaments are in English, but you don't need to speak it fluently to enjoy playing chess.
I share the schedule in our community's WhatsApp group. Message me and I'll add you.

I believe that learning history is one of the best ways to understand the world around us, where we come from, and how different cultures and societies came to be.
For families living abroad, it can be a wonderful way for children to stay connected to their heritage. Whether it's learning about their family's country of origin or discovering the history of the country they currently live in, these lessons help bring the past to life and give them a deeper understanding of the world.
My classes are interactive and engaging, using stories, maps, discussions, and historical events to help students understand not just what happened, but why it matters today.
I believe chess is about much more than winning or losing. It teaches children to think ahead, make decisions, solve problems and learn from their mistakes. These are skills they can use far beyond the chessboard.
Whether you're learning your first moves or preparing for tournaments, lessons are tailored to your current level rather than following a fixed syllabus.
Your first 30-minute lesson is free, so we can find the right starting level.
Prices depend on the subject, the format and how many children are in the group. Ask Rodrigo and he will tell you.
After more than 200 live presentations on Bali's history, I brought that experience online. Through storytelling, humour and cinematic visuals, I take you through the island's past in 28 short episodes, from its earliest beginnings to the present day.
Whether you live in Bali, are planning a visit, or simply want to understand the island on a deeper level beyond its tourist attractions, this course will change the way you see Bali.
